Online Remote Child Assessment

ORCA · Pregnant parents and 0–4 month olds

Research from your living room — a 30–40 minute Zoom call with your baby.

About the study

The goal of the Online Remote Child Assessment (ORCA) project is to make participation in research studies more accessible in order to better understand how diverse early experiences impact child development. Studies in this project examine the development of attention and memory over the first year of life, as well as how parent–child interactions might impact infant physiology and behavior. Families are invited to hop on a 30–40 minute Zoom call where their baby watches short videos on their computer, tablet, or smartphone. Families also complete some short surveys and may be invited to participate in an interview or at additional time points. Over 100 families from 29 states have already enrolled — many participating multiple times — and we are actively recruiting families prenatal through 4 months nationwide.

  • 100+ families enrolled across 29 states (many participating multiple times)
  • Fully remote — no need to leave home
  • Examines attention, memory, and parent–child interaction in the first year
